The English Stories will be launched in Vancouver on Thursday 14 May, from 7 to 9 pm in the Bistro at the Sylvia Hotel, 1154 Gilford Street.
I’m happy that this date is set!
Biblioasis is also arranging for me a series of readings in Ontario, in late May/early June. These will be at McNally Robinson Books in Toronto, The Bookshelf in Guelph, the Manx Bar in Ottawa, and TBA in Windsor and Hamilton. Exact dates TBA also.

Welcome to my website and this blog! They’ve come into existence because a new book of mine, The English Stories, will appear in May 09 from Biblioasis.
The collection began in 1993 with a story called “Country Life,” and the last one written is in Best Canadian Stories 2008, edited by John Metcalf. This suite of short fictions is set in 1950s England, in a girls’ school and a residential hotel.
I’m excited about this publication, and working with Dan Wells of Biblioasis has been a treat. As soon as launch dates are set, they’ll be posted here and on the website. Very soon the cover will appear too. I’ve seen the design, and it’s terrific!
